Mumbai, Sept. 1 -- Odisha pitched its port led industrial ecosystem, feedstock access and investment incentives to global chemical investors at a Global CEO Roundtable in New Delhi. The event, the Global CEO Roundtable on India's Chemicals Sector: Charting the Path to United States dollar (USD) one tn by 2040, was organised by the department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers in partnership with Invest India. The delegation framed the offer to accelerate downstream manufacturing and value addition.
The state showcased the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) at Paradip, anchored by Indian Oil Corporation's refinery and petrochemicals complex, and the port based complex at Dhamra and areas near Gopalpur Port. Chemicals, petrochemicals and technical textiles are designated thrust sectors under Odisha's Industrial Policy Resolution 2022 and qualify for the highest bracket of investment incentives. Officials said these assets enable efficient logistics and feedstock supply for large projects.
Additional chief secretary, Industries Hemant Sharma highlighted Odisha's long coastline, major ports, available industrial land, feedstock availability and reliable utilities as competitive advantages. He outlined opportunities across chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and allied manufacturing with an emphasis on downstream value addition and employment generation.
On the sidelines, the state delegation engaged prospective investors on projects in titanium pigments, adhesives, BOPP films and fertilisers, discussing locations, infrastructure, utilities, incentives and regulatory facilitation. The state indicated it would provide end to end support from site identification to approvals and project implementation. The aim was to translate investor interest into firm projects and to reinforce downstream and ancillary value chains under the Samruddha Odisha 2036 vision.
Union minister JP Nadda chaired the event attended by CXO level representatives of over 30 global and Indian chemical companies and reiterated that the chemicals sector must underpin India's ambition to build a USD one tn industry by 2040. He stressed the need for sustained investment, technology development and stronger domestic manufacturing, and affirmed central support for emerging hubs at Gopalpur and Paradip.
