Mumbai, July 23 -- National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Project Implementation Unit Udhampur (PIU-Udhampur) organised a plantation drive under the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign on the Chenani-Nashri project stretch. The activity saw 250 saplings planted along the project corridor and included fruit bearing, non fruit bearing and ornamental species intended to enhance the green cover and promote environmental sustainability. The programme formed part of NHAI's wider effort to integrate ecological measures within infrastructure development.
The event was attended by the Project Director of PIU-Udhampur, Shri Ish Gupta, together with NHAI officials, project staff and workers. The Project Director participated in planting activities and distributed saplings among workers, urging them to plant and nurture trees in the name of their mothers. He also encouraged staff to take responsibility for the care of the saplings to ensure their survival and growth.
The Project Director highlighted that tree plantation can improve air quality, enhance biodiversity and help maintain ecological balance along highway corridors. He described the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign as a meaningful initiative that combines environmental conservation with values of gratitude and respect for mothers. He appealed to local stakeholders and staff to participate by planting at least one tree in their mother's name and ensuring its ongoing care.
The plantation drive elicited enthusiastic participation from NHAI officials, project staff and workers, reaffirming the authority's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and environmental stewardship. The planted saplings are expected to contribute to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for communities along the Chenani-Nashri stretch. NHAI noted that collective efforts and sustained care are essential to realise the long term benefits of such green initiatives.
