Mumbai, July 16 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), regional office (RO) Jammu, is carrying out comprehensive maintenance and round-the-clock monitoring across the Jammu region to ensure safe and smooth travel for pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. The operation aims to provide a comfortable journey and minimise disruptions on the principal approaches to the shrine. NHAI Jammu reports that preparatory work was prioritised well before the commencement of the pilgrimage.
A handout said that prior to the start of the Yatra, NHAI Jammu undertook extensive maintenance and road safety works on several national highway (NH) stretches in the region. Works included road repairs and resurfacing at identified locations, renewal of lane markings, maintenance of crash barriers and systematic cleaning of drains. The authority also inspected and maintained road furniture, painted and serviced toll plazas, carried out vegetation clearance and implemented other essential highway improvement measures to bolster reliability.
Fresh road markings have been restored on key sections to improve lane discipline and enhance visibility during day and night, thereby strengthening overall road safety. Dedicated maintenance teams and engineers remain deployed at strategic locations to monitor conditions and respond promptly to operational requirements, ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement. Since the start of the Yatra on July three, 2026, thousands of pilgrims have been travelling along the NH network across Jammu with greater ease as a result of these proactive measures.
NHAI Jammu continues to closely monitor the highway network in coordination with project implementation units (PIUs), concessionaires and other stakeholders to maintain seamless connectivity and uphold high standards of safety throughout the Amarnath Yatra 2026. The regional office has indicated that personnel and equipment will remain on standby to address any emergent requirements and to sustain operational readiness until the pilgrimage concludes. Officials emphasise that sustained vigilance and coordination are central to preserving route safety for pilgrims and other road users.
