Mumbai, Aug. 27 -- The governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on power procurement and system coordination. The agreement establishes a framework for the two state utilities to secure a stable supply of electricity and to manage procurement jointly where beneficial. Officials agreed the arrangement aims to align purchase plans, optimise use of available generation and strengthen grid reliability across adjoining regions. The pact covers technical coordination and data exchange to facilitate real time balancing and contingency response.
The MoU sets out procedures for scheduling, transmission access and financial settlement between the parties. It provides for joint planning of procurement cycles, coordination of despatch and mechanisms to share surplus or shortfall in supply. The arrangement also contemplates greater cooperation on renewable energy purchases and on integrating variable generation with demand management by the distribution companies. Provisions address billing cycles, collateral arrangements and standardised contracting to simplify transactions.
Authorities indicated the pact will help reduce overall procurement costs and improve power availability for domestic and industrial consumers. By pooling requirements and timing purchases the states seek to moderate price volatility and avoid costly emergency purchases. Enhanced inter?state coordination is intended to support seasonal agricultural needs and to provide a more predictable framework for investment in generation and transmission. Improved predictability will support consumers by reducing interruptions and create better conditions for industry to plan operations.
Implementation will be overseen by a joint committee that will finalise operational protocols and dispute resolution procedures. The committee is to monitor supply adequacy and to coordinate necessary regulatory approvals and scheduling with central agencies. Officials said the pact represents a step towards deeper regional cooperation in the power sector and is designed to contribute to longer term energy security and economic stability. Timelines for specific power purchase agreements will be set by the joint committee and communicated to stakeholders.
