Mumbai, Oct. 28 -- Member Legislative Assembly Banihal-Gool Sajjad Shaheen on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a Rs. 19.6 mn road connecting Lamber GujjarNar with National Highway-44 in Ramban. The project is being executed by the Public Works Department's Roads and Buildings wing.
The road is intended to address a longstanding demand from residents of Lamber and nearby villages, who have faced difficulties because of the absence of direct connectivity with the highway. Once completed, it is expected to shorten travel distances and improve the movement of residents, essential commodities and other goods.
The project was described as part of wider efforts to strengthen infrastructure in remote and mountainous areas of the Banihal-Gool constituency. Shaheen said road, bridge and other development works were being pursued to address infrastructure gaps and improve public access to basic services.
He also referred to road projects sanctioned under the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, including Ramsoo-Sarbagni, Makerkote-Dardahi and Livra-Gagarnag, with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 647.4 mn. Other initiatives mentioned included a Model Higher Secondary School in Banihal, the proposed development of 58 playgrounds and seven mini-stadiums, and plans for an indoor stadium for local youth.
Shaheen also highlighted the need to improve bridge connectivity, education, power supply and healthcare facilities. He called for the timely execution of sanctioned works and better coordination among departments so that development benefits reach people in remote and far-flung areas.
Executive Engineer Mohammad Iqbal Ganai, Assistant Engineer Nasir Ahmad Wani, senior officials and residents of Lamber and adjoining villages attended the foundation ceremony.
