Mumbai, Nov. 2 -- Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar have partnered to establish a 5 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat. Operations at the proposed plant are expected to begin in Q1 FY28, according to a joint statement issued by the companies.
The collaboration combines Mecpower Solutions' capabilities in renewable energy project development, engineering and execution with Navitas Solar's integrated manufacturing expertise. The companies have previously worked together on solar and renewable energy projects, and said the new partnership would support the development of India's energy storage ecosystem.
The proposed facility is intended to bring together manufacturing, project deployment and system integration capabilities. The partners plan to develop scalable battery storage solutions for utility-scale, commercial and industrial renewable energy applications, as demand grows for technologies that can balance variable power generation.
Setul Shah, Director at Mecpower Solutions, said the facility would strengthen the company's position across the energy storage value chain. The company plans to integrate battery storage manufacturing with its engineering, procurement and construction and independent power producer businesses, with the objective of addressing requirements from large renewable energy projects and improving the reliability of power delivery.
Ankit Singhania, Director at Navitas Solar, said domestic manufacturing would help strengthen India's clean-energy supply chain and serve the changing needs of utility-scale storage projects. He said the partnership would extend Navitas Solar's manufacturing capabilities into energy storage and contribute to the development of scalable solutions for the power sector.
Battery storage systems are increasingly being deployed to manage the intermittency of solar and wind generation, improve grid flexibility and enable more predictable energy delivery. The proposed Karjan facility is therefore positioned as part of the companies' broader effort to participate in India's transition towards a more flexible renewable power system, although the companies have not disclosed the investment value, production technology or planned annual output beyond the stated capacity.
