Mumbai, Nov. 2 -- Jupiter Wagons has secured an order worth Rs. 11.4 bn from the Ministry of Railways for manufacturing 2,583 wagons, the company said on Thursday. The contract adds to the company's existing order pipeline and covers two wagon categories used in freight operations.

The order includes BOXNHL and BOXNS wagons, according to a company statement. Jupiter Wagons said its private-sector order book also remained strong, supported by steady demand from private freight operators, wagon leasing companies and customers in core industries. The company said demand across these customer groups continued to support its business outlook.

Jupiter Wagons expects additional order inflows of around Rs. 20 bn during the fourth quarter of FY27, the statement said. The near-term demand outlook for the sector has also strengthened following the Ministry of Railways' recently issued tender for procuring 5,800 BOBRN wagons.

The company said its manufacturing and supply capabilities were supported by backward integration across the wagon value chain. This includes castings, bogies, couplers and brake systems, while the company is extending its integrated operations to wheelsets through its facility in Odisha. The move is intended to provide greater control over costs, quality and delivery timelines.

Managing Director Vivek Lohia said the expansion of freight capacity by Indian Railways was creating opportunities for wagon manufacturers. The company said the latest order was aligned with the government's objective of increasing the railways' share of freight movement under the National Rail Plan. The order also reflects continued public-sector procurement alongside demand from private freight customers and leasing companies.
