Mumbai, Aug. 7 -- Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the concluding cultural night of this year's international Minjar Fair in Chamba and extended his greetings to attendees on the occasion. He said the state government was prioritising construction and upgradation of roads in the Chamba district and had spent Rs. 5.91 bn on road construction and expansion. The comment came during ceremonies held at Chamba Chowgan as part of the fair.
The chief minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the all-round development of every region of the district and highlighted recent investments in health and infrastructure. The administration established Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College at Chamba so that residents need not travel outside the district for specialised healthcare. Special emphasis had been laid on providing modern medical infrastructure and the latest healthcare technology at the institution.
A 200-bed hospital was built for Rs. 1.58 bn and is expected to enhance patient care while providing improved working and learning facilities for doctors, nursing staff, medical students and other healthcare professionals. The state government remains committed to strengthening modern healthcare infrastructure and to ensuring quality medical services for the people of the district. These additions are intended to reduce referrals outside the region.
During the event the chief minister distributed prizes to winners of competitions organised as part of the Minjar Fair and released a souvenir produced by the district administration. A local contestant, Nandani of Chamba district, was adjudged Miss Minjar Queen during the celebrations. Renowned Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal performed as the main attraction of the concluding cultural evening and entertained a large audience with an energetic show.
The fair showcased a blend of cultural celebration and development announcements as the government sought to balance heritage promotion with infrastructure delivery. Officials indicated that the investments in roads and healthcare form part of a wider plan to promote equitable development across remote hill areas. The state administration characterised the measures as steps towards improving connectivity, accessibility and the quality of public services in Chamba district.
