Mumbai, Sept. 10 -- GMIDC has invited expressions of interest for an 85 megawatt (MW) floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project with an integrated battery energy storage system (BESS) in Maharashtra. The project is described as comprising 85 MW of floating solar generation alongside a BESS intended to support grid stability and dispatchability. The invitation seeks responses from firms with experience in large scale renewable projects and energy storage delivery. The authority has indicated coordination with state agencies for site assessment and regulatory clearances.

The authority has outlined a procurement process that will assess technical experience, financial strength and proposed deployment timelines. Interested parties are asked to submit information demonstrating capability in floating solar PV installation, BESS procurement and operation, and integration with local transmission networks. The scope envisages modular floating platforms, PV arrays and a BESS sized to match operational requirements supplied by qualified vendors.

The move is intended to accelerate deployment of renewable capacity and to harness surface area on reservoirs and water bodies while limiting land use. Floating solar integrated with BESS is expected to offer enhanced generation efficiency and faster grid response compared with solar alone, enabling better management of peak demand. Developers replying to the invitation will be required to provide technical designs, performance guarantees and indicative commercial terms.
