Mumbai, Oct. 29 -- Dubai-based logistics company DP World has launched two double-stack rail services connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) with inland container depots (ICDs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The services are intended to improve cargo capacity, transit predictability and supply chain planning between the maritime gateway and major inland markets.
Both services use dedicated freight corridor (DFC) infrastructure, according to the company. The first service, which began in September 2026, connects JNPA with DP World's ICD network at Pali/Rewari, Jhattipur-Panipat and Modinagar in NCR. The second links JNPA with ICD Sachana in Ahmedabad, extending the port's double-stack rail connectivity into Gujarat.
DP World said the services combine dedicated rail infrastructure, higher operating speeds and greater carrying capacity to support more efficient cargo movement. The connections are expected to improve turnaround times between JNPA and key consumption and production centres while strengthening links between the port and inland logistics facilities.
The company said the services offer customers rail alternatives that support faster transit, predictable cargo movement and more efficient supply chain planning. Double-stack operations enable more cargo to be transported in each train, while increased rail usage can reduce reliance on road transportation and support a more sustainable logistics network.
Hemant Kumar Ruia, Country Manager for the Subcontinent at DP World, said the expansion of double-stack rail connectivity through the DFC would contribute to a more efficient logistics system in India. Adhendru Jain, Vice-President for Rail and Inland Terminals at DP World's SCO division, said the National Logistics Policy and PM GatiShakti were supporting a more integrated, multimodal logistics ecosystem by strengthening connections among ports, rail networks and inland markets.
