Mumbai, Nov. 6 -- Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed the Bhumi Pujan for widening the Khatima-Sitarganj road on November 3, 2026, in his home constituency of Khatima. The project, estimated at Rs. 135 mn, is intended to expand the road and improve movement along a route used by residents and other commuters.

The road passes through Khatima and connects people from rural and adjoining areas with destinations towards Taragarh. Dhami said the widening had been awaited because of regular traffic on the route and the presence of a National Highway through the constituency. He described Khatima as a diverse area with residents from different castes and social backgrounds.

The project is intended to ease congestion and make travel more convenient for motorists, commuters and pedestrians. The state government also plans to address the shortage of public restrooms in the area, including by providing pink toilets intended for women. The executing agency will be tasked with incorporating these facilities into the development work.

Dhami said the state government was pursuing integrated development across Uttarakhand under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He referred to areas ranging from Niti and Malari to Gunji and Tyuni, as well as locations in Haridwar and the Khatima region, to emphasise that development was intended to reach border areas and other parts of the state. The government was working to accelerate projects across the state.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the government's intention to develop Khatima as an ideal constituency through continuing infrastructure and public-service initiatives. The road-widening work will support local mobility while improving access for people travelling between Khatima, Sitarganj and surrounding settlements.
