Mumbai, Aug. 21 -- Delhi Metro services will begin from all terminal stations at four AM on Independence Day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. The move is intended to facilitate movement of special guests, invitees and members of the general public attending the national celebration. The DMRC indicated that the decision applies across the metro network to ensure access to the ceremony venue and surrounding areas.
Services will run at a 30-minute frequency on all lines until the commencement of regular revenue services, the DMRC added, and will follow the scheduled timetable for the remainder of the day. The early operations are designed to link key entry points and dispersal routes so that attendees can reach the venue and return afterwards with minimal disruption. Regular services are expected to begin as per the published timetable for Independence Day.
The Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Delhi Gate metro stations were identified as the nearest stations to the celebration venue, the DMRC noted, and passengers were advised to use those stations for easier access. Commuters were urged to plan their journeys in advance and to allow additional time for entry and exit given the scale of the event. The DMRC emphasised that signage and staff will be deployed to assist passengers and manage flows at terminal points.
Operational arrangements for the early start have been made to accommodate the anticipated surge in ridership for the national event and to provide seamless connectivity across the network. The DMRC said that ticketing and passenger information systems will operate in line with the adjusted start time and frequency until regular services take over. Commuters were reminded to check travel updates on official channels before setting out.
