Mumbai, Nov. 5 -- The Centre has cleared Rs. 9.89 bn for 39 road development projects in Kerala under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), with construction scheduled to begin in December. The projects will cover 486.33 km of roads across the state.
Public Works Minister P K Basheer said the state government had already granted administrative sanction for the works. The remaining technical and financial clearances are to be completed within the stipulated timeline before construction begins.
Of the total allocation, Rs. 5.7 bn has been earmarked for 21 projects in the Malabar region. The works will cover Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, and will include major district roads, ordinary district roads and corporation roads.
The clearance followed discussions between Basheer and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. The state government has completed the administrative approval process, while the remaining procedures are intended to enable construction to commence in December.
The roads will be developed in accordance with National Highway standards. On completion, the projects are expected to improve the quality of rural and urban roads and strengthen connectivity across Kerala. The investment is focused on upgrading links across several districts through projects funded by the CRIF.
