Sri Lanka, Jan. 13 -- The Cabinet has approved the introduction of a digital card system for fueling vehicles belonging to government institutions, aiming to enhance transparency and efficiency in fuel procurement.

Under the system, fuel payments will be reimbursed through online banking based on actual fuel requirements, reducing personal intervention in the process. The initiative has been jointly developed by the Bank of Ceylon and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

As a first step, the President proposed implementing the system for the reserve vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat as a pilot project. Based on its success, the same digital fueling system will be extended to other government institutions nationwide.
