Mumbai, Aug. 5 -- BorgWarner has secured a major extension of several high-volume high-voltage inverter programmes from a leading European automotive manufacturer.
The contracts cover updated inverter designs for plug-in hybrid and 800V battery-electric vehicle applications. Production is scheduled to begin in 2029.
Isabelle McKenzie, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, said the programme extensions demonstrate the company's position in power electronics and reflect the strength of its technology, in-house expertise and customer relationships.
For plug-in hybrid vehicles, BorgWarner will supply an updated high-voltage inverter incorporating its proprietary Application-Specific Integrated Circuit technology.
The technology is already used in BorgWarner's 800V inverter portfolio and will be compatible with the customer's new vehicle operating system. The design is intended to provide advanced power electronics control and support efficient system integration.
For 800V battery-electric vehicles, BorgWarner will supply a traction inverter equipped with a new generation of its proprietary Viper silicon carbide power switches.
The inverter will also feature a dual-sided-cooled power module designed to combine high efficiency with cost competitiveness.
Both inverter families are being developed to strengthen the automotive manufacturer's plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicle portfolio. The systems will support reduced-emission and emission-free mobility while improving overall system efficiency.
