
Mumbai, July 7 -- International Business Machines (IBM) chairman and chief executive officer Arvind Krishna has confirmed that Amaravati will host one of the first two IBM quantum computers to be established in India, with commissioning targeted by September 2026. The announcement was made at an event in the United States and was reflected in an official press release that described the timing and location of the deployment. The decision represents a notable achievement for Andhra Pradesh as it seeks to expand its technology infrastructure.
Krishna indicated that quantum computers are likely two to three years away from delivering substantial commercial advantages across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, materials science, financial services, logistics, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI). The press release presented this as part of a broader industry expectation about when quantum hardware and software developments will begin to generate measurable returns for enterprises and researchers. The project forms part of Quantum Valley, Amaravati, which the state is promoting as a national centre for quantum innovation.
