Mumbai, Sept. 2 -- ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) special purpose vehicle AMNS Paradip Logistics Private Limited (APLPL) has been granted a 30-year concession by the Paradip Port Authority (PPA) to mechanise CQ-III berth for handling dry bulk cargo on a captive basis. The award of concession was formally handed over by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways on August 21 and is intended to align with central government policy to promote coastal shipping as a fuel-efficient, economical and environment-friendly mode of transport. The concession aims to secure a dedicated berth that will support integrated logistics for pellet movements.
APLPL will mechanise the berth with a fully mechanised conveyor system directly linked to the pellet plant complex, enabling direct loading of iron ore pellets and reducing reliance on road transport. The arrangement is expected to streamline cargo movement between the production facility and the berth, shorten turnaround times and lower logistics costs. The configuration will also reduce handling-related emissions and improve operational predictability for the steelmaking supply chain.
The captive use of CQ-III berth is designed to reinforce AM/NS India's operational efficiency and long-term growth plans by providing predictable access to port facilities and improved throughput. The company anticipates enhanced supply chain resilience as coastal shipments from Paradip to Hazira continue as an established environmentally sustainable transport mode. Modernisation of port operations through mechanisation is presented as a milestone in strengthening logistics capabilities.
The concession is described by the company as a significant step in consolidating an eco-friendly supply chain pipeline and in modernising its export and domestic shipment processes. Stakeholders expect that the facility will support steady pellet flows, reduce congestion at general cargo berths and contribute to broader efforts to shift freight to coastal shipping corridors.
