Mumbai, June 27 -- Alstom's joint venture with Indian Railways, Madhepura Electric Locomotive Private Limited, has secured a new five-year maintenance services contract valued at €107 million. The agreement covers comprehensive maintenance of 250 WAG-12B electric locomotives at the MELPL Nagpur Depot.

The contract follows the successful completion of the previous four-year agreement and reflects Indian Railways' continued confidence in Alstom's maintenance capabilities. The Nagpur depot has emerged as an important centre for locomotive maintenance and operational support within India's rail network.

The 12,000 HP Prima T8 WAG-12B locomotives play a key role in India's freight movement and green mobility goals. Capable of hauling 6,000-tonne loads at speeds of up to 120 kph, the locomotives are deployed on Dedicated Freight Corridors to increase freight capacity and reduce emissions.

Under the agreement, MELPL will maintain both the 250 locomotives and depot infrastructure. Alstom will continue deploying specialised Prompt Response Teams with tools and spares at strategic locations across the country to improve issue resolution and maximise fleet availability. The contract also supports ongoing skill development through training programmes at the depot."
