New Delhi, Aug. 14 -- India's UPI story is no longer just about how quickly consumers have moved from cash to digital payments. The bigger shift is happening around the rail itself, where a growing private payments industry has emerged to build consumer apps, merchant platforms, credit products and the infrastructure needed to process transactions at scale.

According to Tracxn's The India Payments Landscape: How UPI Made India Self-Reliant in Payments Report, payments companies raised about $5.8 billion across 371 disclosed equity funding rounds between January 2021 and 2026. The ecosystem also recorded eight IPOs and 25 acquisitions during the period.
