Treasury Yields Fall as U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Lowers Energy Prices
Mumbai, July 28 -- Treasury yields fell Monday after the U.S. and Iran halted hostilities in the Middle East over the weekend, pushing energy prices lower. The yield on the key 10-year Treasury note - the main benchmark for mortgages, auto loans and credit card debt - was 3 bps lower at 4.64%.
Shorter- and longer-term yields also moved lower. The yield on the 2-year Treasury note which typically tracks short-term Federal Reserve interest rate decisions, dropped about 1 basis point to 4.32%.
Meanwhile, the 30-year Treasury yield which traditionally moves in response to geopolitical events, was down nearly 3 bps to 5.13%.
