Sensex trades 290 pts higher; metal shares shine
Mumbai, July 2 -- Domestic equity benchmarks traded modestly higher in mid-morning trade, supported by strong buying in IT stocks and a rebound in metal shares after two consecutive sessions of losses. Broader markets also remained firm, while easing crude oil prices amid ongoing Iran-US peace talks further lifted investor sentiment. At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, advanced 290.73 points or 0.38% to 77,213.37. The Nifty 50 index rallied 84.10 points or 0.34% to 24,087.90.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.48% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index jumped 0.79%.
