Mumbai, Oct. 21 -- The key equity indices ended with modest losses on Wednesday, extending their losing streak to a second consecutive session amid elevated crude oil prices. Broader markets also declined. The Nifty closed below the 22,850 mark. Barring IT, all sectoral indices ended in the red on the NSE.

As per provisional closing data, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 143.21 points, or 0.19%, to 73,709.69, while the Nifty 50 lost 77.60 points, or 0.34%, to 22,811.35. In the two consecutive trading sessions, the Sensex declined 1.36%, while the Nifty 50 fell 1.45%.

The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The Nifty MidCap 150 Index declined 1.58% and the Nifty SmallCap 250 Index fell 2.16%.
