Mumbai, Aug. 20 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with significant gains in morning trade on Thursday, with the Nifty trading above the 24,200 level. IT shares extended gains for the second consecutive trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex gained 536.66 points or 0.70% to 77,446.27. The Nifty 50 index jumped 132.80 points or 0.55% to 24,210.85.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.65% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rallied 0.65%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,400 shares rose and 1,281 shares fell. A total of 285 shares were unchanged.
