Mumbai, Oct. 6 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in the morning trade. The Nifty traded above the 22,600 level. Metal shares extended their gains for the second consecutive trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 282.06 points or 0.39% to 72,664.17. The Nifty 50 index gained 89.55 points or 0.40% to 22,645.30.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.77% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.79%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,460 shares rose and 1,284 shares fell. A total of 267 shares were unchanged.
