Mumbai, Oct. 5 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in the morning trade. The Nifty traded tad above the 23,500 level. PSU bank shares advanced after declining in the past trading session.

At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 240.85 points or 0.34% to 72,143.84. The Nifty 50 index gained 87.60 points or 0.39% to 22,503.90.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.29% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.01%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,077 shares rose and 1,877 shares fell. A total of 308 shares were unchanged.
