Mumbai, Aug. 20 -- COMEX gold is holding gains above $4500 mark on Thursday morning in Asia tracking sustained weakness in dollar overseas after the US Treasury Department stepped in to provide relief to bond markets. The Treasury Department announced that it would at least double the maximum size of its liquidity-support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal securities. The current maximum size of $2 billion per operation will be at least $4 billion per operation. Dollar index slumped by near 1% yesterday and edged below 99 mark. Currently gold futures are quoting at $4553 an ounce, up 0.17% on the day after surging by around 3% in the previous session. Silver futures are also up over 2% at $67.27 an ounce.
