Mumbai, Aug. 26 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in early trade. The Nifty traded tad above the 24,350 mark. PSU bank, private bank and pharma shares advanced, while metal and consumer durables declined on the NSE.

At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 280.14 points or 0.37% to 77,944.96. The Nifty 50 index added 24.60 points or 0.11% to 24,356.30.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 0.43% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.55%.

The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,111 shares rose and 817 shares fell. A total of 196 shares were unchanged.
