Mumbai, Oct. 6 -- The key equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in mid-morning trade, supported by positive global cues and quarterly business updates, while investors remained focused on the RBI's upcoming policy decision amid expectations of a 25-basis-point rate hike and sustained domestic institutional buying. The Nifty traded above the 22,600 level, while private bank shares extended gains for the fourth consecutive trading session.

At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 411.89 points or 0.57% to 72,794.36. The Nifty 50 index gained 119.85 points or 0.53% to 22,675.60.

In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.77% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.79%.
