Market trade sideways; private bank shares advance
Mumbai, Aug. 26 -- The key equity benchmarks traded sideways in mid-morning trade, supported by easing crude oil prices and an improved risk appetite. The Nifty traded below the 24,350 level, while private bank shares advanced after declining in the past two trading sessions.
At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 79.80 points or 0.10% to 77,738.87. The Nifty 50 index lost 27 points or 0.11% to 24,306.65.
In the broader market, the BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 0.40% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.70%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,475 shares rose and 1,449 shares fell. A total of 235 shares were unchanged.
