Mumbai, Aug. 26 -- Domestic equity indices ended with sharp losses today, weighed down by concerns over potential U.S. trade actions. Market sentiment turned cautious after the United States issued a draft notice proposing tariffs of up to 50% on Indian goods, set to take effect from Wednesday. Additionally, foreign institutional investor (FII) selling added to the pressure. The Nifty settled below the 24,750 mark.

Barring the Nifty FMCG index, all the other sectoral indices on the NSE ended in the red.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex dropped 849.37 points or 1.04% to 80,786.54. The Nifty 50 index tumbled 255.70 points or 1.02% to 24,712.05.
