Mumbai, Oct. 5 -- Total nonfarm payroll employment in the United States increased by 29,000 in September, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its report published on Friday. July's figure was revised down by 31,000 to a decline of 10,000, while August's gain was cut by 29,000 to 133,000.
Healthcare added 17,000 jobs, construction 11,000, and manufacturing 9,000, while financial activities lost 7,000. The unemployment rate rose to 4.2% from 4.1% in August, while the number of unemployed people stood at 7.1 million.
Average hourly earnings for all employees increased by 5 cents, or 0.1%, to $37.81 and were up 3.0% year-on-year. The average workweek remained unchanged at 34.4 hours.
