Mumbai, Oct. 9 -- Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending October 3 stood at 197,000, down by 2,000 from the previous week's revised total, according to the latest report by the Department of Labor published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was 198,000, a decrease of 2,500 from the previous week's revised average.

The insured unemployment rate was 1.1% for the week ending September 26, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The number for insured unemployment at 1,716,000, up by 17,000 from the previous week. The 4-week moving average was 1,711,000, a decrease of 12,250 from the previous week's revised average.
