Mumbai, Sept. 2 -- Construction spending in the United States recorded $2.2 trillion in July, declining by 0.5% compared to the previous month's revised figure, the US Census Bureau revealed in a report on Tuesday. On an annual basis, the figure was 3.8% lower.
Spending on private construction came to $1.61 trillion, down by 0.5% in comparison to the reading in June. Residential construction dropped by 1.3% to $859 billion in July, while nonresidential construction rose 0.4% to $755 billion. Public construction came in at $543 billion, which is 0.2% lower than last month's figure.
Construction expenditure reached $1.2 trillion in the first seven months of this year, a decrease of 3.5% from the same period in 2025.
