Mumbai, July 22 -- The United States economy added 16,500 jobs on average in the four weeks ending July 4 compared to the previous seven days, Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) revealed in its report published on Tuesday.

In the previous week, the figure stood at 19,750. "Hiring slowed for the fourth straight week," ADP noted, warning that the numbers "are preliminary and could change as new data is added."
