Mumbai, May 29 -- Japan's unemployment rate eased to 2.5% in April 2026 from 2.7% in March, marking the lowest level since July 2025 as the number of unemployed people declined by 70 thousand to 1.79 million. Employment rose sharply by 610 thousand to a record high of 68.76 million, while the labor force also climbed to an all-time high of 70.55 million. Meanwhile, the number of people outside the labor force dropped by 540 thousand to a record low, with the labor force participation rate improving to 64.4% from 63.6% in the previous month.
