Mumbai, Aug. 20 -- Japan's trade deficit widened sharply to JPY 634.5 billion in July 2026, as imports surged 27.8% to a record JPY 12.15 trillion, driven by strong domestic demand and an 87.8% jump in crude oil imports. Exports also reached a record JPY 11.51 trillion, rising 23.2% on a weaker yen and robust demand for AI-related chips.
