Mumbai, April 24 -- Japan's food inflation eased to 3.6% year-on-year in March 2026, down from 4.0% in February, marking the slowest pace since October 2024. The moderation was driven by softer price gains across key categories, including cereals, seafood, dairy, and edible oils. Rice prices, a major contributor, rose 6.8% annually-sharply lower than February's 17.1% surge-reflecting government efforts to stabilize supply and ease earlier price pressures. The broader cooling trend signals some relief for consumers after sustained food price inflation through 2025.
