Mumbai, May 27 -- France's consumer confidence indicator declined to 82 in May 2026 from 84 in April, falling below expectations of 83 and marking its weakest reading since March 2023. Sentiment deteriorated further as households grew more pessimistic about their finances, living standards, and employment outlook. Major purchase intentions weakened sharply, while saving intentions edged higher as consumers remained cautious amid persistent economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, perceptions of past inflation increased, although expectations for future price pressures eased during the month.
