Mumbai, Sept. 19 -- The Bank of Japan left its benchmark short-term rate unchanged at 0.5% in its September meeting, keeping borrowing costs at their highest level since 2008. Japan's interest rates have averaged 2.23% from 1972 to 2025, peaking at 9% in December 1973 and hitting a record low of -0.10% in January 2016.
