Mumbai, Oct. 6 -- Australia's Westpac-Melbourne Institute Consumer Sentiment Index fell 4.7% month-on-month to 80.4 in October, its lowest level in six months and marking a second consecutive monthly decline. Rising fuel and interest costs continued to weigh on household finances and economic expectations, while sentiment toward major purchases weakened sharply. Unemployment expectations also increased, pointing to growing caution among consumers.
