Benchmarks trade near day's low; European shares decline
Mumbai, Sept. 8 -- The benchmark indices traded near the day's low in afternoon trade as elevated crude oil prices continue to weigh on the macroeconomic outlook. Further, rise in global yields dampened investor sentiment. The Nifty traded below the 23,650 level. Oil & gas, banks and financials declined while FMCG, pharma and healthcare shares managed to trade with some gains.
At 13:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex declined 503.86 points or 0.66% to 75,628.95. The Nifty 50 index declined 129.55 points or 0.54% to 23,649.60.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index rose 0.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.11%.
