Mumbai, Aug. 28 -- COMEX copper jumped sharply higher near record high levels on Friday morning in Asia tracking upbeat overnight equities. Stocks on Wall Street ended firmly positive with the tech-heavy Nasdaq showing a particularly strong move to the upside. The Nasdaq jumped 411.16 points or 1.6 percent to 26,541.35 and the S&P 500 advanced 55.29 points or 0.7 percent to 7,730.99. The narrower Dow posted a more modest gain, rising 105.56 points or 0.2 percent to 53,569.44. Dollar renewing gains above 99 mark could however cap a significant rise in the red metal which is currently quoting at $6.70 per pound, up 0.2% on the day.
