Court halts Sh1bn payout to Thiba Dam contractor amid fight with State
Nairobi, Oct. 30 -- The Court of Appeal has halted a Sh1 billion payout to Strabag International GmbH following a standoff between the German contractor and the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) over the construction of Thiba Dam, which aims to supply water to the Mwea rice irrigation scheme in Kirinyaga County.
The High Court awarded the Sh1billion claim to Strabag in 2024 after dismissing a bid by the State-run NIA to overturn five decisions by the contract dispute resolution board, which had endorsed the payout to the German firm.
