Nairobi, April 12 -- The cumulative fines imposed by the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) against errant firms more than tripled to Sh116.71 million in the year ended June 30, 2025, reflecting an intensified crackdown on unfair trade practices.
Latest disclosures by the watchdog show that fines and penalties during the period were 3.5 times higher than the Sh33.06 million levied the previous year, marking one of the highest levels recorded in at least seven years.
The penalties, linked to practices such as infringing consumer rights and consummating mergers without approval, marked the third consecutive year of rising fines, up from Sh12.72 million in 2021/2022.
