Srinagar, Sept. 6 -- Every September 5, schools across India pause for a small, familiar ritual. Students present flowers to their teachers, a few classes are handed over to senior pupils for an hour of mock instruction, and somewhere a chief guest repeats the well-worn line about teachers building the nation. Then the day ends, and by Monday the ritual is forgotten until the next calendar cycle brings it round again.
