Kohima, April 8, April 9 -- AssamRifles under SpearCorps conducted a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony to pay tribute to eight brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during an ambush on April 7, 1998, in Nagaland. The ceremony commemorated Havildar Ramadhar Thakur, Rifleman Balbir Singh, Rifleman Govind Singh Negi, Rifleman Balai Chandra Howladhar, Rifleman Sherman Lohar, Rifleman Tarsem Lal, Rifleman Rabit Sangma, and Rifleman Maharaja Ram. The ambush occurred on a convoy moving from Zunhebuto to Kiphire in Nagaland, when enemy forces launched a surprise attack.
