Srinagar, Sept. 21 -- Shamas Faquir occupies an exalted position in the illustrious tradition of Kashmiri Sufi saints and poets. A mystic of profound spiritual insight, a poet of remarkable simplicity and a devoted follower of the Qadiriyya Sufi order, he enriched Kashmiri literature with verses that embodied the essence of Sufism, spiritual discipline, universal brotherhood and the indigenous ethos of Kashmir.
