Govt builds early-warning shield against floods, landslides
Srinagar, Sep 1, Sept. 2 -- Jammu and Kashmir is stepping up its disaster preparedness with plans to install advanced early flood warning systems at three major hydropower projects, alongside a GIS-based multi-hazard risk atlas and stronger disaster-risk reduction measures. The Jammu Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) has floated tenders for early warning systems at the 900-MW Baglihar Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab in Ramban, the 105-MW Upper Sindh Hydroelectric Project on the Sindh in Ganderbal and the 37.5-MW Parnai Hydroelectric Project on the Suran near Bafliaz in Poonch.JKPDC Managing Director official said the initiative is aimed at providing authorities with critical lead time to respond to flash floods and other d...
