Guwahati, Aug 6, Aug. 7 -- Continuing its intensified crackdown on cross-border smuggling and narcotics trafficking in the Northeast, the Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, carried out two successful joint operations in Mizoram and Assam, recovering contraband worth over Rs.4.11 crore and arresting two alleged drug peddlers. In the first operation, Assam Rifles personnel, in coordination with the Customs Department, intercepted a major consignment of 22,400 kilograms of smuggled areca nuts at Kawlbem in Saitual district of Mizoram.Officials said the seized areca nuts are valued at approximately Rs.1.56 crore.
