Singapore, July 7 -- Australia's Monash University will lead the design of a first-of-its-kind mobile CT scanner to bring critical healthcare services to rural communities across the United States.

Australian tech company Micro-X, Monash University, and Johns Hopkins University have secured a contract for up to $25 million to develop lightweight CT scanners that can be fitted into mobile vehicles, providing hospital-level care to patients regardless of their location.

The grant was awarded by the US Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) as part of theirPlatform Accelerating Rural Access to Distributed and InteGrated Medical care (PARADIGM)programme, launched in 2024.
